In recent months we have seen Havaianas introduce some very exciting developments and product offerings for the South African consumer – from the Missoni collaboration flip flop, the introduction of the Soul Collection and the two brand new exclusive stores in Sandton City and Gateway shopping centres. These developments have created a huge amount of excitement about the brand and it’s only natural to wonder what’s next for the consumer.

As a progressive brand Havaianas prides themselves in forward thinking and remaining at the cusp of trends, creativity and originality. In-keeping with these brands traits Havaianas has extended the creative process of putting together design elements of their flip flops to the consumer, by developing an initiative that allows the customer to personally select all elements of their very own flip flops and be at the fore front of the creative selection and assembling process of their very own personalised flip flops.

For the very first time the Make Your Own Havaianas initiative will be introduced in Africa. Brazil, the country of origin has subsequently selected South Africa as the very first African country to host this internationally successful event. On Tuesday the 29th of October to Sunday the 3rd of November 2013 Havaianas will bring South Africans the Make Your Own Havaianas initiative and Sandton City has been selected as the very first destination for South Africa.

Even though we’re already spoilt for choice with the Havaianas collection, what’s the harm in having even more?! A pop-up store will be set up in the Woolworths Upper court of Sandton City. Here, you will be able to customise your very own pair of Havaianas flip-flops – choosing everything from the straps, the soles, mixing and matching these and even adding pins to the straps to personalise them as you please!

This event has been successfully introduced worldwide with special emphasis to USA, Japan, Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan and France as well as Selfridges in the UK, allowing thousands of Havaianas fans to revel in the ultimate celebration of self-expression – Make Your Own Havaianas (MYOH).

Customers can create their very own customized pair of Havaianas by following these easy, interactive steps:

1. Choose your desired sole and strap combination.

2. Choose your pins to express your style and personalize your pair.

3. Go to our friendly staff who will assemble your special pair on the spot.

I have come to appreciate his style; I don’t know why. Maybe it is because of that something-nyana be it lacking or present. The French would say that je ne sais quoi. An element that you cannot cage, it exists subtly in its presence or absence. I guess that is the beauty of it all. You always do not have to get it - I constantly say. When we do not get it we become so frustrated with ourselves that we cannot fit something in a societal predetermined category and label it.That is why we tend to use dismissive words like 'crazy' or call it hipster. I do not get it so it is crazy, it is hipster.

I believe sometimes you can really enjoy a sense of style without having to reference it i.e that colour palatte is sooo LANVIN spring summer 2011 collection, with a spit-styling infusion of SAINT LAURENT 2012 Autumn Winter campaign and the cray-cray execution of JEREMY SCOTT for ADIDAS. NO, STOP. You really do not have to!

 Yes, that is how the seasoned fashionista tend to go when describing something and anything. I understand that talk it stems from the fact that you live, breath and eat fashion (over look that nauseating cliché line) that your brain builds an enormous archive filled with everything you can always pull from to reference at the sight of a fashion item.
