Media Release | Masego ‘Maps’ Maponyane x Lunga Shabalala | JOOP! Homme Brand Ambassadors
He is a Real Man that lives in the
now. He is charming with a real sense of who he is. He wears pink, and that
gives him sex appeal. He wears it like no one does; after all pink is the only
colour to wear when you are confident. This is the man that this timeless and
daring fragrance has been looking for to represent Joop! Homme in South Africa
as their Ambassador.
The contest has been narrowed down
to two finalists; Lunga
Shabalala and Maps
Maponyane, who will be battling it out over the next few weeks to gain as
much support as they can from the South African public, in the hope of being
named The Joop! Homme fragrance Brand Ambassador in South Africa. The
contest will test their physical and mental strength, as well as incorporating
some fun challenges that will reveal these two men’s seductive side.
“Lunga and Maps both embody what
JOOP! is looking for in its South African Ambassador. They carry their
accomplishments, at such a young age, with enviable ease. They’re easy going
guys that ooze the confidence and appeal that characterises
men who wear the JOOP! Homme fragrance all over the world. We couldn't have
hoped for better contestants to present to the South African public”, says
Joop! Marketing Director Charlotte Le Carpentier.
Admired for his impeccable style,
good looks and sex appeal, Maps
Maponyane somehow manages to stay charmingly humble. This versatile
model/presenter has recently launched his own clothing range and added “fashion
designer” to his impressive resumé. His sense of style has landed him on GQ’s
Best Dressed list and his hot body guaranteed him the title of Cosmopolitan’s
Sexiest Man. South Africa’s latest “it boy” is more than just a pretty face.
“It’s hard to not take a step back
and pause when an opportunity to represent an international brand of such
stature comes your way. I’m up against a great competitor but will Lunga win
this? That’s up to the South African public to decide but I want this”, Maps
quipped.
It’s easy to see why Lunga
Shabalala is considered to be one of the sexiest men in South Africa. Underwear
model, TV presenter and radio personality; he exudes sex appeal with his
intelligence, good looks and playful charm. As the former local face for Calvin
Klein underwear and presenter of the popular SABC 1 show Selimathunzi, Lunga
has achieved celebrity status. This charismatic, all round entertainer, has it
all.
“I’ve got this! Competition’s always
good and I’ve learnt to always have a healthy respect for my fellow
competitors. I’ve also learnt to be in it to win it! The South African public
will decide who The Ultimate Joop! Homme Brand Ambassador will be”, Lunga
added.
As the Joop! Homme Brand Ambassador,
ONE of these gentlemen will be expected to interact with all South Africans and
it is thus up to the South African public to help us choose The Ultimate Joop!
Homme Brand Ambassador… Who will it be? Lunga or Maps.
To vote for your favourite
candidate, sms either “Lunga” or “Maps” to the number 45205. JOOOP! HOMME

Keeping Up With The Maponyanes | Map's Family
If you find yourself day dreaming once
too often about sitting at celebratory dinner in your honour as the Maponyane in-law
surrounded by Map’s family one day. It
might never happen, but that should not wet blanket your dreams. I am a LEO I
know all about dreaming and none stop far-fetched dreaming at it.
This is Masego’s family, be acquainted.
When I asked to take a picture of Map’s
dad (Yes, that is Marks Maponyane) he (the dad) thought, I thought he was
Masego and I was like eeerrrmmmm NO! He’s got jokes! Speaking of jokes, Maps
called Kat on to the podium to share some brotherly love and appreciation. Kat
thought that was ‘gay’ and Map’s thought the statement / ‘joke’ was tasteless... I did say it is KEEPING UP WITH THE MAPONYANEs after all

South African Fashion Designer Talk x Marea Lewis of Augustine x OCD Collection
I had a Q&A with Marea Lewis of
AUGUSTINE to find out a little bit more about the collection …
Tell me a little more about the fabrics used in OCD collection?
The fabrics used were personally selected
by both Maps and Augustine. We wanted to go for a colour palette that would
make an impact but still remain classic. All fabrics are luxury fabrics
imported from Italy, Germany and United Kingdom. We incorporated a lot of
leather, suede and wooden buttons. Shirts are egyptian cotton soft enough
to swim in and a must have in any gentleman’s wardrobe. Tapestry was used in
the blue suit and rust suit inners. We wanted to incorporate the tapestry into
the collection and liked the thought of someone knowing that there was more to
the blazer if someone wished to dissect the details further. The same goes for
the leather and suede on the blazer under collars.
How many pieces did you design for the OCD collection?
22 pieces
What is the price range (vest, shirt, pants, and jackets)?
The price range is from R650.00 – R6000.00
How long is the collaboration/ collection going to last for?
We have not put a timeline on the
collection. We ultimately are a bespoke label and make things to order, so it
will last as long as there is an interest in the used fabrics, as well as the
availability of the said fabrics.

Are the
pieces ready to purchase off the racks or every item will be made upon order?
The collection is not a ready to wear collection; it is a bespoke suit collection. For that reason we produced shirts, waistcoats and ties which are ready to be purchased. With regards to suits, we prefer to make these to order as this is the service we are offering. We want to offer people a different shopping experience, one which involves choice and involvement from design, fabric and most importantly fit. We do push out ready to wear garments which are on display at our store as well as pop up stores.
What is the turnaround time for a bespoke suit, shirt or pants?
Turn around time works as follows. First measurements are taken and the garment is discussed in a consultation. Once a deposit is made production begins. Within a week, a fitting is scheduled. For bespoke clients another two fittings are required and made-to-measure clients can collect their order in the days following the fitting after minor alterations. We require a lead time of no less than two weeks for a fully besopke suit and seven working days for made-to-measure. The timeline may vary based on the intricacy level of the garment.

Women's
bespoke collection - please tell me a little more about it and provide
credits as well?
AUGUSTINE felt that women also needed a
suit range and the option of Bespoke. Women are leaning towards wearing suits
now more than ever and we wanted to address that need. We stayed true to the
Augustine design aesthetic of strong lines, luxury fabrics, fit and detail.
Office attire no longer needs to be by the book and ill fitting.
