Mej. Lues will once again be seen on the
SA Fashion Week catwalk this season, returning for the KZN Fashion Council
Collections during the Autumn Winter 2015 SAFW.
Hanrie Lues launched her daywear ladies
label in 2012 at SA Fashion Week, but before that, she designed only under her
evening wear label ‘Lues’, which was launched in 2006 at the Vodacom Durban
July Fashion Challenge. She currently
still does custom evening & bridal wear as well as stocking Just Prom in
Durban with her exclusive evening garments.
This season’s collections is called ‘The
origins of Rachel’ and was inspired by the Afrikaans tale of Racheltjie de
Beer, a story that has clung to the designer from childhood. Upon further
research on the topic, it emerged that allegations have surfaced to challenge
the validity of Racheltjie’s story. It seems that the story might not be a true
life drama of the ill-fated heroin, but rather the musing of a creative writer,
borrowing his imagery from the American tale of Hazel Miner.
So the collection explores the true
“origins of Rachel’. It is a collection marked by comfortable, nostalgic
garments to brave the harsh winter in. Aimed at the woman that is confident in
her own skin, sure of her style & who knows what suits her figure. But also
doesn’t shy away from taking “fashion risks’ from time to time!
The cuts are generous, the fabrics are
natural and soft. The knitting is chunky, textured & cosy. Overall the
colours reflect a cool winter’s morning, with deep navy tones crossing over the
blue spectrum towards the icy ivory side, as seen in the crochet trims &
knitting pieces.
Fabrics used are cotton voile, cotton
twill, rayon, cotton lycra, crochet, Jaquard, lace & custom knitwear.
