Fundudzi by Craig Jacobs speeds up the
arrival of recently launched tuxedo shirt dress. IT STIRRED the attention of
fashionistas attending the spring summer collections at SAFW – and so, in an
unprecedented move, local label Fundudzi by Craig Jacobs has launched its
cobalt blue tuxedo pleat shirtdress three months ahead of schedule.
The dress, made from cotton poplin in the
year’s most coveted hue, formed part of the tight capsule themed Freeflow which
was sponsored by American Swiss and reflects the label’s signature understated
style. Craig Jacobs, the label’s creative director, said he always knew the
piece would be a major seller but he never expected the interest seconds after
it hit the SAFW ramp in April. “The @Fundudzi Twitter feed went wild with
comments from media and fans alike, and we also took a number of orders from
clients wanting the dress immediately,” he said. As a result, the label decided
to rush production of the piece, and it has just arrived on the rails of the
popular Edgars X SA Designer Capsule at Edgars stores in Sandton and Melrose
Arch. “We thought, what better way to cure the winter blues than the chance to
wear the piece in what will become the year’s hottest colour,” says Jacobs. Featuring
a luxurious satin collar and covered buttons, the tuxedo pleat shirtdress is
made from cotton poplin and retails for R980. Channeling spirited,
individualistic women who enjoy wearing pieces which
reflect a modern
African aesthetic,
