Lira Paints LA Red With Sylvester Falata

I got in touch with the brilliant Sylvester Falata regarding the creation Miss Lira was looking all kinds of FEROSH in, last night at the BET awards. This is what he had to say:

“Lira and I opted for a very simple and whimsical silhouette. I wanted to create a dress that was authentically African but still modern and timeless. This is what Sylvester Falata is all about.

Lira needed a dress that proudly showed that she was a Proud African and South African so we hand beaded hundreds of beads on to the fabric. We experimented around with a lot of traditional beads and in lots of colours that are reflective of South Africa and our many cultures. I also incorporated Swarovski crystals just to give it a modern feel. The beading on the shoulder is inspired by the traditional Ndebele patterns and we also got some inspiration from Mam Mirriam Makeba who inspires quite a few of our creations. Lira finished off the look with Maria McCloy red Dashiki clutch.”
